HMDS – Hexamethyldisilazane
Description
Hexamethyldisilazane is an N-silyl compound obtained from ammonia by replacement of two of the hydrogens with trimethylsilyl groups. Hexamethyldisilazane is a derivatization agent used in gas chromatography & mass spectrometry applications. It derives from a hydride of ammonia. With Glindia, you can develop various chemical reactions and optimized pathways for production.

Uses
⦁ As per HMDS structure, it can introduce trimethylsilyl group into organic molecules having an active Hydrogen atom such as alcohols, amines, carboxylic acid, and many more.
⦁ Thus it is used in the synthesis of antibiotics such as Ampicillin and Cephalexin.
⦁ Hence it is used in the production of API like Efavirenz, Sofosbuvir, Gemcitabine, Analapril meltate, Cefprozil etc.
⦁
In Silicon Industry, its ready-to-use preparations for surface treatment of silicon promote photoresist adhesion on silicon, and SiO2 films prevent lifts off at edges of photoresist and reduce undercutting.
⦁ The Life science industry uses HMDS in SEM sample preparation and Pyrolysis- Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.
⦁
In RTV- Silica fillers, it is used as a silicone elastomer modifier to make the hydrophilic fillers hydrophobic dispersed uniformly in Silicone fluids.
